Pool Fencing Rules in Northern NSW: Tweed, Byron & Ballina
In NSW, every backyard pool and spa must be registered on the NSW Swimming Pool Register and surrounded by a child-resistant barrier.
The core measurements are similar to Queensland: a fence at least 1200 mm high, no more than 100 mm under it, and a 900 mm climb-free zone around the outside.
Gates must open away from the pool and self-close and self-latch. Doors from the house generally can't open straight into the pool area on newer pools.
Before selling or leasing, you'll usually need a certificate of compliance from your local council or an accredited certifier.
Councils such as Tweed Shire publish local guidance, and requirements can differ for older pools — so it's worth checking your situation before building or upgrading.
